Monarch Rd today from the Maple Leaf Mills site

This Road which has been abandoned for so long by the city is now visible. (but not useable)

To the left and right of the bottom image sat industrial buildings  about 15 years ago.

To the left was the Dominion Corrugated Company.

To the right was the repair building for the mill. The mill repair building has been gone for over twenty years. In the seventies this roadway was buzzing 24 hours a day.

It was incredibly dirty with the road caked with oil and grain.

Now with the entire mill site undergoing a revitalization, with a possible school and other high street elements, the area is being transformed in a great way.

Monarch Rd access sidewalk removed

DSC00753

Monarch Road at Junction Rd has lost it's sidewalk access due to the West Toronto Diamond Project.  This roadway is slowly disappearing from our community and along with it the memories of  a beautiful  industrial roadway.

sad.

Monarch Rd eatup by plants

Monarch Road at Junction Rd as it is now, in the 70 and 80’s a dark cardboard box plant sat to the right. To the left sat the repair works of the Flour mill until the mid 80’s. Much of this rd is currently being sold off by the city to GO transit for their new rail lines.

Monarch Rd as it appears on the cities GEO Map.
