The Sweet Potato has had some minor water damage as a result of the fire upstairs. We’re working with our insurance agency and the health inspector to repair all damages and get the store open as soon as possible.

The Sweet Potato will definitely reopen – and crossing fingers for tomorrow.

We will update The Junctioneer again this afternoon.

Our friends who lived in the apartment upstairs are safe and did not sustain any serious injury.

The Windows on the second floor are broken out and blackened. From Pacific Ave and Dundas it is not possible right now to have a view if the store. Posted 9:05am

  1. Very scary to see a fire like this, no reports of injuries, let’s hope it stays that way.
I had a close look this morning, the upper apartments are completely gutted on Dundas. You can’t see into Sweet Potato (to dark) but given the extent of the damage upstairs they must have sustained extensive water damage at best. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have to close or relocate like Butcher By Nature. Underworld just opened this week after their fire in 2009.
Big loss for the Junction, I hope the tenants of the apartments and owners and staff of SP find a new home soon.

  2. Thanks for posting Martin.

My fiance manages The Sweet Potato, and I can confirm there were no injuries. There's minor water damage and some smoke damage, but The Sweet Potato will be open tomorrow (Nov. 25th).
