Winter cafe Enclosures on St. Clair Avenue West

Councillor Cesar Palacio is requesting the Manager, Municipal Licensing and Standards, to report to the Etobicoke York Community Council on amendments to the former City of Toronto Municipal Code, Chapter 313, to permit seasonal enclosures on St. Clair Avenue West by extending the dates of enclosure operation to include the winter months.

Summary

Currently, licensed café operators who have an agreement with the City to operate a full patio enclosure are permitted to operate the enclosure only between April 1st and May 30th as well as September 15th to November 1st of any given year. Many Toronto businesses with full enclosures would like to be given the option of operating them year-round however, as other Cities allow, to offer customers an “outdoor” dining experience even during the winter months.

St. Clair Avenue West is home to several businesses that are enthusiastically looking to participate in a pilot project of this nature. Without a full enclosure, these patio spaces often go unmaintained and neglected during the winter months. Dozens of businesses have been operating year-round enclosures, without incident or complaint from the local community for years. This is an old bylaw that is badly in need of updating. Their father ran this business for a long time before his sons began running  it some - well a lot  years ago.  A large part of the business during the earlier years was upholstery work for boats which their father was excellent at designing as well as the sale of boating goods.

 Callender Ave which butts with Harvard Ave {Gmap link} has some wonderful homes,  some have third floor (attic types) and great windows running the height of the building.  The avenue is also within a skip from Grafton Ave Parkette probably the best best purposed small community park in Wards 13 and 14

Menegon Khal The Troubadour Thursday March 5, 2009 9pm

That had a good long... long-standing dry status, which was lengthened by the communities fear of what would come in with the liquor. It probably would not have been so long if people new places such as  The Troubadour could have been foreseen. This establishment puts a lot of interesting items on it's entertainment bill and many people like the food and community air in the place.

...and they also provide work for the local festival director between festivals

are playing at this great little bar on Dundas West called The Troubadour ( just west of High Park, a few doors east of Quebec Ave. on the south side of Dundas West)  It's very cosy and warm and seats about 25 people.

Railroad subway underpass railing replaced

The CPR railway subway underpass railing has been replaced, this past week, although parts of the damaged one still blow around the area, woe to cars as this metal can provide a deep scratch and if it hits people it can hurt them. (we moved it to a wind "less" corner)

The Village by High Park, construction reaches railroad roadbed

This week the  Village by High Park construction height  will reach the railroad roadway bed height and from what we understand they will cap the concrete built so far, with a concrete "roof" - which will be the ground level floor deck.  This will  allow continued work on the sub levels in a manner that can he heated  for the curing of the deepest level decks .
