Ward 11 and 17 regarding widening the road at St.Clair and Keele between Old Weston Rd & Keele right under the bridge Apr 16

There is a meeting tomorrow April 16, 2012 for Ward 17 regarding widening the road at St.Clair and Keele between Old Weston Rd and Keele right under the bridge. I encourage all to go out and show your support to get the road widened to two lanes each including the widening the bridge. This also impacts Ward 11 so the more people in favour of widening the road the better chances it will be implemented.

(A)s cheduled a public meeting on Monday, April 16, 2012 – 7:00 PM at the Joseph J. Piccininni Centre, 1369 St. Clair Avenue West, just west of Lansdowne Avenue. The purpose of this meeting is to get your input on proposed modifications that are both necessary and urgent. TTC/City Staff will be on hand to provide us with information and options on what improvements can me made; please make every effort to attend.
Traffic movement on St. Clair Avenue West, between Keele Street and Old Weston Road has become dangerous and a total nightmare. Residents and the business community have expressed their deep concern over this stretch of roadway, as congestion and gridlock create unreasonable travel times.
This intersection is not safe and immediate changes are needed to make it safer for TTC users, motorists and pedestrians. To realize this goal, I have moved recommendations at the Etobicoke York Community Council and at the TTC, asking the Commission to report back as soon as possible on the feasibility of implementing these changes

100 Day Survey
A group of local residents is working with the support of Councillor Ana Bailao to expand the Perth/Dupont branch of the Toronto Public Library. As an important community resource, we want to determine what Junction Triangle residents want in their local library.
The 100 Day Survey is ten questions that will form part of a Community Report to the Toronto Public Library detailing design features and services that will meet area needs.
The survey runs until February 29, 2012.

Sadly Hilary Bell, Community Leader, Passes

Sadly Hilary Bell died a few days ago due to cancer. Hilary was known in many circles for her tireless community work and advocacy for improving communities. She was involved in creating Railpath, the natural garden along Dundas, the murals under the Wallace Bridge to name but a few. She was a fair but formidable foe to developers, Metrolinx, and politicians when she needed to be but never lost her sense of humour and the desire for a hearty bike ride. This obit is provided by the family and there will be more news to follow. I note that the wonderful picture of Hilary was taken at the official opening of Railpath.

3) HELP THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB AND ART STARTS
A click of your mouse could help a couple of local neighbourhood
groups who are trying to raise some money through the Aviva Community
Fund. The Perth Outreach location of the Dovercourt Boys and Girls
Club and the award winning Art Starts group who did the fabulous mural
on the Dupont underpass are both in the second round of the Aviva fund
raising process. You could help them by simply logging onto the Aviva
site and voting for the projects. The process to register to vote is
very simple and you won't be swamped with junk mail. You can vote once
every day and vote for as many projects as you like. Your effort could
go a long way in helping both groups reach their goals. The links for
each project are included below and we want to say thank you on their
behalf for voting.

Environmental and soil remediation at the 370 Wallace lands (former
Glidden Paint site) is now complete. If you have been past the site
in the last few weeks, you may have noticed that the land is now
flattened and seeded with plants. It is ready to be sold to a
developer. Thanks to Scott Dobson for the update on this site. A

Porch Re-Creation, 5 Cross Street lauded by Heritage Toronto
the benefit of thoughtful choice
This porch recreation in the Weston area, is a great example of what can be done to bring back some character to a avenue, instead of simply building something functional just to suit a purpose. The before and after pictures clearly issue a call for more of this type of renovation in the older suburbs of Toronto, of which The Junction and Weston were in earlier periods of time, although at different times.
This particular project was commissioned by the homeowners and carried out under the direction of a architect, and built by a contractor, which is just one of the ways to achieve the same result. Homeowners can choose to research the design of ornamentation details suited for there themselves. This can often be done by simply walking around the community and snapping a few shots and maybe some added research at the local public library, most of which have a great selection of local history items readily available. They can then work with a contractor to develop a project inline with the historical character with the contractor, or the industrious and craft minded can work to create the new poach themselves.
West Toronto is full of small wood shops that would be inexpensive sources for the bespoke woodwork pieces required. Also the community has a large base of craft builders, many open to sectional jobs, where the homeowner does some of the work.

The owners of this Victorian home in Weston embarked on a project to create a replica porch for the front of their house consistent with the 1889 construction period of the building. After careful research, including looking at other houses from the period, the porch was constructed from Ontario white pine with detailed ornamentation such as brackets, turnings and other elements custom manufactured. The structure was finished with a heritage colour paint.

The school was constructed and opened in 1972. The school was built on the former southern section of MacGregor Park. The football field is the former location of a lumber yard. The construction of the school necessitated the closing of the section alongside the school of St. Helen's Avenue. The siding of the building on the east and west sides of the building is unique. It was installed as "raw" steel and allowed to rust to reach the intended brown colour, then preserved. The school was originally named in 1972, by its students as West Toronto Secondary School.

This wrap-up workshop will be taking place Wednesday September 23rd
from 5:30-8:00pm at the Japanese Paper Place, 77 Brock Street (just south of
the train tracks).
We have held more than 10 community food mapping workshops and sessions in
Parkdale this summer and are excited and inspired by everyone's interest in
improving our community food system. To see reports and maps from all of these

This final workshop will be a fun and important opportunity to look at all of
the maps created this summer, talk about next steps, and create a shared
picture of food in Parkdale.

This report is about litigation or potential litigation that affects the City and contains advice or communications that are subject to solicitor-client privilege. (which the city redacted)
This report has been prepared for submission directly to City Council as requested by Council at its meeting of May 25, 26 and 27, 2009 to provide Council with information respecting the status of the formal noise/vibration complaint made by the West Toronto Diamond Residents Group to the Canadian Transportation Agency (“CTA”) and recommendations as to the City’s possible involvement in the process to support the local residents’ concerns.
Legal Services staff has been advised by CTA representatives that this is the first time that a complaint respecting an “urban transit authority” such as Metrolinx (formerly GO Transit) has been considered under the Canada Transportation Act process.
The City Solicitor recommends that City Council:
1. Authorize the City Solicitor to prepare submissions for the City of Toronto in the proceeding before the Canadian Transportation Agency (“CTA”) to consider the complaint (included as Attachment 2 to this report) made by the West Toronto
Diamond Community Group with respect to the noise and vibration caused by the rail-to-rail West Toronto Diamond grade separation project currently being undertaken by Metrolinx (formerly GO Transit).
2. Direct that the City Solicitor and other City staff, as directed by the City Manager, consult with the local residents in the preparation of submissions to the CTA.
3. Consider and receive Confidential Attachment 1 for information, and that the contents of Confidential Attachment 1 not be made public to avoid prejudicing the City and the residents’ case before the Canadian Transportation Agency.
