If he is retiring, then I hope he enjoys it. Maybe for nostalgia they can leave the "John's Color TV" sign up (which has "Color TV" spelled in difference colours as though it's still a novelty or technological breakthrough), painting over the phone number if necessary. That always struck me as quirky since I grew up when colour TV was already banal. If it fades, we get another ghost sign.
